Introducing Aditya Shah- In-patient Psychiatry Resident

Aditya Shah, M.D. is a First-Year In-patient Psychiatry Resident at the Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research. Dr. Shah has work experience as a medical scribe within the Emergency Department at  St. Mary’s Hospital Clayton. Dr. Shah has also occupied numerous leadership positions, including the President of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association and the President and Co-founder of the Cardiology Interest Club in 2018-2019. With a passion for broadening his horizons and a thirst for knowledge, he has certifications in several professional development courses, including Psychological First Aid: Supporting Yourself and Others During COVID-19 and QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Institute Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper.

Dr. Shah has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience as a  Research Assistant at the BJC Institute of Health at Washington University School of Medicine and the Tyson Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Shah holds the issue of substance use and addiction dearly and hopes to make a difference through his collaboration with the Addiction Training for Health Professionals (ATHP) program. As a fellow,  Dr. Shah’s work at NextGenU.org allows him to engage in three primary areas: education, research, and networking. Dr. Shah assists the Grant Writing team in submitting new grant proposals, particularly in writing the narratives of the proposal, which explain why the fund is needed and how it will be utilized. He also assists in creating and reviewing case studies for the clinical courses, allowing learners to apply what they have learned in a meaningful way.

 

ATHP seeks to contribute to and develop policies and resources for Addiction Medicine education and training. The work done by these researchers contributes to the progression of research over time to systematically address the implications of substance misuse and substance use disorders for individuals, families, and communities.
