ATHP Research Institute

As part of the Addiction Training for Health Professionals (ATHP) program, the ATHP Research Institute seeks to develop research and disseminates it through peer-reviewed publication and other media. The Research Institute aims to improve addiction education and encourage fellows and trainees enrolled in the Frank Foundation’s various initiatives to engage in the field of addiction by supporting their development as researchers.

The team accomplishes this work through globally-renowned addiction medicine subject matter experts from all over the world, as well as their mentees and trainees. The research team consists of the ATHP Research Staff, the ATHP FRRE Team (Fellows, Residents, Researchers, and Educationalists), as well as all of the enrollees in the Substance Use and Mental Health Concentration at Public Health U.

The ATHP Research Insitute meets monthly to hear members present their current research and findings, provide peer feedback, and discuss future research topics to improve our knowledge of public health, addiction, mental health and treatment worldwide. Recent presentations include: the prevalence of substance use disorders among people attending ART Clinics in Juba City, South Sudan; substance use and its impact in the underserved community known as Poor People of Zambia (PPZ) in Chililabombwe District; and the prevalence of substance use among internally displaced school students in Buea, Cameroon.
