Strengthening global capacity for tobacco and nicotine dependence treatment

The Nicotine Addiction and Tobacco Use Treatment Initiative (NATTI) is a global collaboration dedicated to enhancing the capacity of health professionals and institutions to address tobacco and nicotine dependence through evidence-based education, policy engagement, and coordinated networks.

NATTI is spearheaded by the Center for International Cooperation on Tobacco Control of the Ministry of Public Health of Uruguay and The Addiction Training for Health Professionals Program at the Frank Foundation.

Why NATTI

Tobacco use remains one of the leading causes of preventable death worldwide. In many regions, health professionals lack structured training in tobacco dependence treatment, limiting access to effective cessation services.

NATTI addresses this gap by strengthening professional competencies, expanding access to practical resources, and supporting integration of cessation strategies within health systems and educational institutions.

Strategic Objectives

NATTI works to:

Strengthen training and professional commitment to evidence-based tobacco dependence interventions

Support integration of cessation strategies into national health systems and educational curricula

Facilitate knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and best practice dissemination.

Develop practical tools and resources to support implementation

Promote public policies that advance cessation and reduce tobacco industry interference
