Inspire

Our outreach program, designed to address the education ladder and connect with professional societies and regulating bodies, focuses on outreach to residents, medical students, practicing physicians, and the organizations that serve them. These activities include:

• The Visiting Scholars Program: The Visiting Scholars Program provides a visiting scholar to an under-resourced psychiatry or preventive medicine residency program. The visiting scholar will engage program directors and faculty in evaluating the residency curriculum related to addiction and making recommendations to improve the addiction content. This project is led by Dr. Scott Oakman, Co-Chair of the Addiction Committee of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AADPRT), and Dr. Anthony Schlaff, former President of the Association for Prevention, Teaching, and Research.

• Medical School Partnerships: We partner with Medical Schools to help them build the capacity to educate more physicians at a reduced cost.

• • We connect with medical school directors and share educational options that incorporate addiction education for their students, providing and creating content to improve knowledge, reduce stigma, and improve the treatment of patients with substance use disorders;
  • We connect with medical schools that have more than 100 enrollees in our courses to see how we can form deeper partnerships related to content production and research;
  • The instructional design and curriculum development teams are working together to develop content for physician education. The Psychiatry Clerkship for medical schools is in Stage 2 of development and can be viewed as a resource library.
  • The ATHP team offers opportunities for direct teaching and engagement with medical students at medical schools for grand rounds and clinical reflections.

• Addiction Awareness:  We aim to bring awareness to 1,000,000 frontline workers, empowering them to use evidence-based interventions when they encounter patients with substance use disorders.

• Connections: Our team strategically engages with many professional societies and regulating bodies in the United States and beyond. ATHP Representatives present at conferences and engage in policy discussions, research, and content creation with and for many organizations within the addiction sector.
